‘Tree of Heaven’ is a fast growing, deciduous tree which should be planted with caution in small gardens. The tree emits a poison to stop other species growing nearby, has a rather nasty smell and sends out a mass of suckers that smother other plants and can prapidly create thickets. The foliage is similar to that of the Ash, producing one leaf which comprises of a number of smaller leaflets. The flowers are small, yellow and appear in panicles at the ends of the branches from late spring.
